Determining Spousal Share / Countable Assets for Vendor
STEP 1:
After capturing all assets in FAMIS, return to the DIVISION screen where the Division of Assets shows a status of ‘PENDING’ in purple. Press F15=DETSHARE. (This step cannot be completed if assets are not verified by Hard Copy documentation.)
STEP 2:
FAMIS totals the equity in non-exempt assets and divides the total by 2.
STEP 3:
FAMIS compares one half of the non exempt assets to the minimum spousal share. If one half of the couple’s non exempt assets are less than the minimum spousal share, the spousal share is set at the minimum amount. For a complete listing of minimum/maximum spousal shares see FSD Policy Manual 3.13.3 Eligibility for Vendor Payments.
STEP 4:
If one half of the non exempt assets are above the minimum, FAMIS compares to the maximum spousal share. If one half of the couple’s non exempt assets are greater than the maximum, the spousal share is set at the maximum amount. For a complete listing of minimum/maximum spousal shares see FSD Policy Manual see 3.13.3 Eligibility for Vendor Payments.
STEP 5:
If one half of the couple’s non exempt assets are greater than the minimum and less than the maximum, FAMIS determines the spousal share is the actual amount of one half of the non exempt assets.
STEP 6:
Once the shares determined, the Division’s status displays ‘Ready to Activate,’ in purple. FAMIS also displays:
-
- ‘Calculated Considered Amount: $amount’
- ‘Spousal Share: $amount’,
- ‘Inst. Spouse Share: $amount’, and
- Listing of all of the recorded assets.
You are now ready to activate the Division of Assets.
STEP 7:
Review the results to ensure that all assets are correct. Press F14=ACTIVATE and the Division’s status displays status of ‘ACTIVE’ in purple.
STEP 8:
At the DIVISION screen, press F23=PRINT three times to print three copies of the Division of Assets summary FA 478. The copy for the case file requires signatures by the Eligibility Specialist and applicant or representative. One copy is provided to the community spouse, and one to the institutionalized spouse.
