Payment and Amount of Grant

The Temporary Assistance grant is based on the number of eligible parents, needy non-parent caretakers, or legal guardians and children in the Eligibility Unit and the budgetary deficit of the case. The budgetary deficit is the difference between the percentage of need standard and the budgeted income countable to the Eligibility Unit.

The grant is the budget deficit rounded down to the next lowest dollar, unless the deficit is $9.99 or less. When the budget deficit is $9.99 or less, no cash payment is made and the Eligibility Unit does not qualify for Temporary Assistance.

When the application is not approved until the month following application, no payment is recommended for the application month.
