REQUIREMENT:
Temporary Assistance may be received for eligible children between the ages of 18 and 19 if:
- The child is a full-time student in high school or an equivalent level at a vocational or technical school in lieu of high school, and
- The child is reasonably expected to graduate from high school or complete the equivalent level of vocational or technical school.
When both of these requirements are met, the child is eligible for cash up to and including the month he/she reaches age 19.
Teen parents under age 18 who do not have a high school education or GED are required to participate in education activities as their mandatory work activity.
VERIFICATION:
Education level of all members of the Temporary Assistance Eligibility Unit are entered on the Educational Information (FMAJ/EDINFO) screen. Educational detail information regarding the current school attendance is entered in the Education Detail (FMAI) screen. Access the Education Detail (FMAI) screen via the F6=DETAIL function key. Comments describing the education verification are attached to the Education Information screen.
Current school attendance for children required to attend school must be verified by:
- HC = Documentary verification, such as FA-309 School Attendance Verification
- TC = Telephone Call
- CC = Collateral Contact
