Add New Certification Period

Per 42 CFR §435.915 Effective Date, once an individual is determined eligible for Medicaid, coverage is effective either on the date of application or the first day of the month of application.

The MO HealthNet (MHN) certification period is typically for twelve months, unless the specific MHN program specifies otherwise. When a Change In Circumstance (CIC) is reported and the new or updated evidence impacts the budget (i.e. add/remove a person, income change, etc.), a new certification period should be added. The added new certification period should be set for twelve months.

TO ADD NEW CERTIFICATION PERIOD

  1. Navigate to the Product Delivery > Certifications sub-tab
  2. Click on the List Action menu
  3. The New Certification pop up appears
  4. Enter From Date field with the day after the end date of the current certification period shown in MEDES
  5. Enter To Date field with the date listed as the end of the current certification period
  6. Click Save

NOTE: You will receive error if you try to overlap cert dates.

  1. Make a comment on the HoH Person Page to include:
    1. Explanation of why the certification extension is being added.

NOTE: An interim Change In Circumstances (CIC) may result in completion of the Annual Renewal; this is known as a floating review. Changes such as an income change, household composition, or any change that affects the budget, will complete the review. The certification period will be reset according to the date the change was reported.
