Exceptions to Minor Parent Living Arrangements
Temporary Assistance:
A Minor Parent (under the age of 18) who is not married must live with his/her own parent(s) or in another adult supervised supportive living arrangement. To review, see Minor Parent in an Adult Supervised Setting.
If the Minor Parent does not reside in any of the allowable living arrangements, the Minor Parent must meet one of the following exceptions:
- NPLG – No living parent or legal guardian
- The Minor Parent has no living parent or legal guardian, or their whereabouts are unknown
- NHME – Not allowed to live in parent/gdn’s home
- The Minor Parent has no parent or legal guardian who will allow the Minor Parent to live in the home
- NSAF – DFS det phy/emo hlth jeopardized in home
- FSD determines that the physical/emotional health or safety of the Minor Parent or dependent child will be jeopardized
- EMAN – Minor Parent has lived apart at least 1 year
- The Minor Parent lived apart from parent/guardian for at least one year prior to birth of the child or application for benefits.
- GDCS – Good Cause to receive assisted living apart
- There is good cause for the minor parent and dependent child to receive assistance while living apart from a parent or adult supervised living arrangement.
If one of the above exceptions is met, there is good cause for the Minor Parent and dependent child to receive assistance while living apart from a parent or adult supervised living arrangement. Verification is required and should include a written statement by the applicant/recipient to establish the reason for exception as well as any other supportive documentation such as lease agreements, court documents, obituaries, and Children’s Division documentation.
Verification Codes:
- HC – Documentary verification
- TC – Telephone Call
