Certification Periods

This guide will change when 2.2 is implemented. The guide to follow after 2.2 implementation is listed on the second half of this page.

Cases have a 12-month certification period for coverage. The following case actions should result in an automatic extension of the certification date:

  • Income Change
  • Person Added or Removed
  • Incarcerated
  • Deceased (If the Birth and Death Details evidence is updated with the date of death)

In the event the certification period does not extend as it should, a MEDES Incident ticket should be submitted noting the action that was completed that should have resulted in an extension.

The following actions require a manual certification extension following the directions in the Add New Certification Period guide:

  • If there isn’t a current certification period (the certification period has an expiration date prior to the current action)
  • Requesting benefits for a current household member not receiving benefits
  • Adding Pregnancy evidence for a current household member
  • Address changes
  • Removing a person from the household who is not receiving coverage

Certification Periods

Most cases have a 12-month certification period for coverage.  Completing this action will add a new 12-month certification period.

  • Income Change
  • Person Added or Removed (unless HoH is the participant being removed)
  • Incarcerated (unless HoH is the participant incarcerated)
  • Deceased (unless HoH is the participant deceased)
  • Completing either an Automatic or Manual Renewal

Prior Quarter certification periods are displayed individually for each of the three months prior to the month of application on the PQ PDC >Certification sub-tab.

For example, if the application was in January the months displayed on will be October, November and December.

Note: If a member gets added to the household and requests Prior Quarter, the begin date for PQ will be the three months prior to the date of the new member’s application, The Prior Quarter certification period for the new member would be different from the existing members on the household.

For example, a member is added in March to the application discussed above, he/she requests Prior Quarter for December, January and February.  The existing members Prior Quarter certification period will still in October, November and December.

In the event a new certification period is not added, a MEDES Incident ticket should be submitted noting the action that was completed that should have resulted in an extension.

All other certification periods will be added at the time of annual renewal. More information will be forthcoming as it is available.
