Entering Claim Number on SSA/SSD Income Evidence

MO HealthNet participants (adults and children) receiving Social Security income are eligible to receive MO HealthNet coverage so long as they meet all other eligibility factors. The Social Security claim number must be captured on the Income Evidence screen. The claim number is viewable on the IIVE screen. See the IIVE Code Sheet guide for information on how to read the IIVE screen.

Enter the Claim Number on Income Evidence in MEDES for the following types of Social Security Income:

  • Social Security Adult (SSA/SSD) (disabled or received off a disabled/deceased spouse)
  • Social Security Adult (retirement)
  • Social Security Child (SSA/SSD) (disabled or received off a disabled/deceased parent)

NOTE: SSI income is not counted on the Family Healthcare budget but MUST be captured on the Income Evidence screen.

NOTE: It is extremely important to code Social Security Income correctly. If an adult is receiving SSD, it must be coded Social Security Adult vs. Social Security Child, or vice versa

Add the claim number in the following format on income evidence:

  • 9 digit number (no hyphens) followed by the alpha (Capital alpha) and number without the zero.

EXAMPLES:

What is seen on IIVE How to enter the Claim Number in MEDES

123456789A00 – (Adult) 123456789A – (Adult)

123456789D02 – (Adult) 123456789D2 – (Adult)

123456789C01 – (Child) 123456789C1 – (Child)

Ensure the correct income type on the MEDES income evidence matches the claim number’s alpha character. If the claim number has a C that is a “Child’s” income type. If the claim number has an A or another Alpha Character other than C this is for an “Adult’s” income.

An individual can be receiving dual entitlement and have multiple claim numbers. If dual claim numbers exist, research the income associated with the claim number. Income should be entered separately to reflect the income under each claim number. Make sure you are entering the income with the correct claim number.

EXAMPLE: Mary is retired and receives SSA. Mary also receives SSA from a deceased spouse. Mary will have two SS claim numbers, also considered as dual eligibility with the SS office.
